Mexican media's fine balance

1 comment:

  1. Carmen Aristegui, one of Mexico's leading journalists, has been fired from her job, after she raised questions regarding whether or not Felipe calderon, the Mexican president, has a drinking problem.

Unsubstantiated rumours of Calderon being an alcoholic have been abound in Mexico for some time, and lawmakers recently raised the issue in parliament.

Aristegui's dismissal, however, is raising concerns about freedom of speech in the country.

Al Jazeera's Franc Contreras reports from Mexico City.
